He is being funny I guess but ...I don't know what is it supposed to do? I guess if it cheers people up that's good? Maybe it could just make the online posting space messy and gross for everyone? Part of the Trump effect a kind of psychological warfare and modeling an obnoxious ignorance that makes it harder to work with people. Does it help something if that's going both ways?Is anyone learning anything from Newsom's sh*t posting? IDK.

@futurebird I feel the same. I have some friends who love it but I'm not sure it really serves anyone except Newsom himself.

I do not think he would be a good presidential candidate. He's trying to have a different "style" but it's the same substance of the kind of Democrats who have lost.

@futurebird I keep being reminded that Newsom was neither my first nor my second choice for governor of California in 2018.And I do not like that I was given no choice but to vote for him after the primary that year.

@futurebird The important thing about bullies/fascists is that they can’t stand being mocked. Look how they reacted last year to being called weirdos. I think it’s a much better approach than sitting around and uselessly talking about norms being violated.

@futurebird AFAIC, this image of him gledfully destroying a houseless person's property is literally all you need to know about Gavin Newsom to render him a disqualified from political office.He could threaten a tax revolt, slick his hair back, and have someone pound his face in cake makeup 1,000 times and I'd still think he was disqualified.

@futurebird I'm amazed at how short people's memories are. Just a few short months ago he was holding interviews with right-wing personalities in an effort to appease them or something and now he's like this hero figure? Same with this whole South Park deal. The creators of that show are self-described independent libertarians who supported Bush Jr, for crying out loud. I'm fine with them sparring Trump. We need more of that, but the hero worship is overblown. 😅

@futurebird As a Californian, I believe Newsom is a generally good governor, and I strongly support strategies he's using against trump.That said, I doubt he can win a national election.He and our state are not just disliked in the heartland but hated. The hatred is a product of the republican big lie machine, but it exists. I would prefer to see Pritzker or someone else from the heartland run.We don't know yet who will run. It could be an unknown who is not even on the national radar yet.

@futurebird I'll echo everyone else in this thread's hesitancy to follow Newsom too far.The place where it might be valuable is that this playbook may give the pearl clutching "we can't do anything, even though we haven't tried" leadership dems a playbook to disrupt the current admin. Having them do *anything* is better than what they're up to now.The two problems are 1) the guy is an establishment slug who has been trying to tap into conservative bullshit while ramping up to a presidential campaign (see his anti-trans podcast) and 2) none of the things he is doing addresses any of the structural things the dems need to campaign on to win.

@futurebird it's distraction. how do you not see the exact sameness between that and what happens during USA electoral campaign time? they can't lovebomb, so they tell jokes to make you forget how they beat you up and took your lunch money.
