What even is this wiring configuration? 8x 3phase+neutral circuits at ~480V or something? But that's comparatively little distance between them. Very weird.(Also, drove past a very certain break in the line so it seems like it's not in use these days)

Ukranian railways cisterns at Trakiszki. A bit strange because it's standard gauge only here, and they're using SA3 couplers, which are used on 1520mm gauge. The end wagon has a buffer and chain coupler, so maybe they're using variable gauge bogie? But the bogies seem standard. All a bit weird.

Polish train arrives 20 minutes before the Lithuanian one, the whole direction swap of locomotive is done in 15, including brake check and all. Lithuanian train leaves in another direction 15 minutes after arrival. Considering that the Polish train waits for like 20 minutes after the Lithuanian train departs, I'd say that Polish train could easily come 5 minutes before the Lithuanian one and leave 5 minutes after without any much time pressure on direction change, cutting out good 15 minutes of travel time for both directions.

@anthroposamu @ignaloidas The glass insulators definitely suggest that. For telegraph lines, each line was a separate circuit connecting two different points.

@acsawdey@fosstodon.org @anthroposamu@mastodon.social huh, didn't even consider that, could make sense.

@ignaloidas that's a soviet "heritage" when railroad was also a part of the communication system. Technically even today, if I recall it correctly, the LTG (Lithuanian railroad) are also a telecommunication service provider. They have own intranet for a copany use. @acsawdey

@anthroposamu@mastodon.social @acsawdey@fosstodon.org I mean, it kinda makes sense to have their own communications infrastructure, they own the ground along the whole path and need communications for operation of railway, I think pretty much everywhere where a railroad was built, telegraph came as well.IIRC you could rent dark fiber from LTG a copule years ago, but idk if they still offer that, mention of the service went away with the redesign of the website (as well as the offer to rent space on their telecommunication towers)

@wolf480pl@mstdn.io idk, pretty little usually I'd say? FWIW if you give a percentage based margin, then PKPs kinda makes sense? But then also, this is a guaranteed transfer, where either side will wait for the other to arrive and passangers to transfer before leaving, so it doesn't really make sense to have different margins.

@ignaloidas and then the whole schedule shifts, but I guess in railways thay's business as usual
