I use Linux because I'm lazy. I don't have the time or energy to play whackamole with Windows settings.

@art I've had a number of amusing conversations lately with Windows users who think Linux will just be too much trouble, then without irony describe the grievous problems they are having with it and the various hacks, workarounds and and other unhappy accommodations they have to put up with.

@art I love the concept of Linux as a OS for personal use. However, I’m not interested in spending several hours coaxing the system into installing random dependencies, getting the dependencies to actually work together, then praying to a variety of gods that the software I want to use has a UI that wasn’t made by a blind, handless person who hates users. At least on macOS I can reduce that effort to 5 minutes because things actually work.

@art It's funny seeing people comment about "industry standard software" that only works on one operating system, and needs a completely different version for each release of that operating system. That's SOME standard they've got there!

@art I spend a *lot* of time tweaking my Linux settings just right, and also learning how to do that. But I also spent a similar amount of time doing that on Windows. It's not Linux that requires it, it's my personality. The difference is Linux respects my settings and once set how I want, they stay set that way. It doesn't break spontaneously like Windows.

@art Several years ago I've assembled my first budget gaming PC with Windows 10. The microphone on my headset never worked right, it was very quiet and had a very high SNR. Updating drivers of literally every component, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling a clean OS never helped. After several years switched to Ubuntu. It just worked out of the box – no need to play with any settings or drivers. Since then this was pretty much most of my experience – everything works out of the box.🤷
