I like the new Charger. That whizbang straight six they put in it doesn't put me off entirely — I'm only racist against four-cylinders in cars — but all that turbo hardware sure made them too quiet, which is only slightly less bad than too loud. All indications are they'll be wretchedly unreliable, and a V8 will work its way in there, so maybe they'll have the worst possible resale value and I can acquire one without agony.Anyway, just reconfirming that my automobile tastes exist at the intersection of blacks and reddit. :pepe_craw:

Meanwhile, GM's just dropped what they call the 'Corvette CX' concept, as well as the Corvette CX.R for Gran Turismo vidya. It's just a conceptual study not intended for production, but a look at where they are leaning...https://www.thedrive.com/news/the-corvette-cx-concept-is-the-north-star-for-the-future-of-americas-sports-car

@CliffSecord @fknretardlol The styling direction of Corvette is pretty anticultural. It may as well be a different car. C7 was the peak, sadly.

@CliffSecord @fknretardlol This rampant premiumization is also anticultural. Not everything has to be the most superduper.

@JeffGrimesArt @fknretardlol @CliffSecord The Cybertruck is a siege against the castle of Western aesthetics. It throws the book away and starts over, which is fundamentally evil. Imagine a symphony written by a guy who hates every piece of music that was ever played before, and rejects all the rules. Disgusting.

@JeffGrimesArt @fknretardlol @CliffSecord I have long thought it's screwed up to run a full-range marque anymore. GM should just have GM dealerships, and then offer models for six years at a time, with a mild restyle at three years. The showroom would have "Firebird, by Pontiac" and "Riviera, by Buick" which eventually get discontinued and put back in the pocket for a while, to make room for "Malibu, by Chevrolet" and "Rocket, by Oldsmobile", etc. That way we never have to endure the existence of an Alero or Century. No more having five identical minivans competing with each other from within brands that shouldn't be expected to support that type of product. "Tracker, by Geo" and shit for the cheap people.

The police depts. have had a lot of problems with the Dodges too. Dodge a couple years ago gave the police cars away dirt cheap to various depts. Trying to out do Ford when Ford went to the Explorer Interceptor.

some of the engine design is solid .. but the valvetrain is a big weak link(roller bearings of inadequate size / strength)the cars are "cheap fast" no longevity built in

@fknretardlol @KK954 I think the problem with that particular engine is a combination of almost every possible factor. It needs a mild but comprehensive redesign to address everything you've pointed out, as well as the handful of other problems others have identified, like how the cam gets almost no lubrication below 2,000 rpm, and so on.I'll happily fear my Ford cam phasers gunking up in silence, knowing Mopar guys have to worry about so much more.

@ACL9000 @fknretardlol @KK954 I’m contemplating at some point trading my box truck for a new truck and trailer combo, 3/4 ton gas.Ford and Chevy 10 speed (joint project) is just a matter of when it implodes, lucky to make it to 100k.I think the valve body is the issue, and there are some aftermarket upgrade valve bodies.Ram has the lifter issue, but an extremely solid ZF transmission. It really does look like (at least in the trucks, 5.7 and 6.4) it is solely an issue of oil pressure at idle.Oil pump just ain’t up to the task at idle, and the lifters don’t get proper lubrication then.Cheap ‘fix’ is 5k or less oil changes and don’t idle it, 30 seconds at start up is fine, but don’t just consistently sit and idle for long periods. And if you must, give it a little gas while idling and get the rpms up to 1,000.Real fix is a new oil pump, hellcat pump is a direct fit and fixes it.At least one aftermarket pump available that is supposed to be better than the hellcat pump. The 6.4 truck engine really is the best of all the Hemi’s, it has been designed for toughness and longevity, more so than any of the others and has some different key internal components. But do have to take the steps to alleviate idle low oil pressure. I had an 07 Expedition with the 3 valve 5.4L.Had some other issues at around 150k, but knew the cam phasers were a ticking time bomb, so got rid of it.

@ACL9000 @fknretardlol @KK954 That box truck has an old school 6.0 LS and a real Allison 1000 transmission.Keeping all the fluids changed it would probably go 300k+ miles. So if (big if) I am financially responsible it would be a quite while before getting rid of it.

@ACL9000 Guess you could slide an old 440 with a distributor and 780 holley in there. Remove about 10 pounds of engine compartment wiring

The turbos don't make the engine quiet. It's all the stuff in between the air filter leading to the throttle body and the exhaust system, making everything quiet. Built 2JZ's make a ton of power and are very reliable. Maybe Dodge can pull off something similar with the Hurricane I6. Supposedly, the Hemi is coming back, but likely not in 392 or Hellcat versions
