Apparently YouTube is now using #AI upscaling without telling anyone.I'm beyond not okay with this for my own videos. This is not a specifically anti-AI stance. It's a pro-consent, wanna-make-my-own-creative-decisions stance. I'm on a very similar page to the excellent guitarist/YouTuber Rhett Shull about this.https://youtu.be/86nhP8tvbLY

@alisynthesis It's also incredibly rude to make changes to the content creators have uploaded. Beyond wild YouTube thinks they can do this without backlash

@alisynthesis they’re automatically dubbing English videos into French over here, with horrible AI voices and no way to deactivate it. Time to go all in on peertube.

@sknob @alisynthesis the encroachment of AI into interpretation and translation is quite horrible. Those are areas that you want a competent human to be involved.

@CCirco @sknob @alisynthesis I would also say software development should be a human effort (and that checking/fixing shoddy AI code cannot save that much time, or bring that much enjoyment), but what do I know.

@ozzelot @CCirco @alisynthesis I can tell you from experience that editing machine translation takes much longer than translating from scratch. Not at all the same muscles. I refuse to do it on principle, so when my clients ask, I say sure, I’ll do it, for twice my normal translation rate, and they don’t ask again.
