Here is the registration information for a 501c3 called "The Florida Science Foundation" this is where Jeffery Epstein "served" his work release during his prison sentence. The corporation was created shortly before he was sentenced and dissolved when his time was "served."Each day he went to the Palm Beach office to "work." There were deputies from the sheriffs office who supervised him. But don't worry he paid for this.https://search.sunbiz.org/Inquiry/CorporationSearch/SearchResultDetail?inquirytype=EntityName&directionType=PreviousList&searchNameOrder=FLORIDASCIENCEFOUNDATION%20N070000106840&aggregateId=domnp-n07000010684-5fe01893-540e-4da3-aed5-fcb33e56e241&searchTerm=Florida%20Scientific%20Products%20LLC&listNameOrder=FLORIDASCIENCEFOUNDATION%20N070000106840

As an experiment it would be interesting to find someone who is serving time in prison ... ideally for a much less odious crime. Let's say petty theft. And see if, even using unlimited money one could arrange for their stay to be as ... not like prison at all.Can anyone with enough cash buy their way out like this?

@futurebird The buying your way out process for people with that kind of money starts long before they've ever seen the inside of a cell.

@futurebird In many jurisdictions, yes.A group of people had taken some laptops from a work site (not my worksite). One of them was a friend of mine. They all pointed the finger at him, and got off.He was told by the DA that if he could get $30k together, the whole thing would go away. Apparently, this was a common practice.

@futurebird If you have sufficient cash, you’re not going to be incarcerated in the first place… no matter what the crime. This is America, where cash reigns supreme over everything else.

@chessert I have some sense that's true in the abstract, but looking at the name registration for the "Florida Science Foundation" made it suddenly seem very real. What "Florida Science" did the foundation promote? Why did it exist? I am disgusted anew.

@futurebird I'm all for work release, but it has to be for all prisoners (security reasons aside for the really dangerous ones, of course).

@lienrag Agree. Though I have many questions about most of the prison system and how effective it is at keeping people safe or deterring crime. Then you have stuff like this that just makes it all seem pointless.

I think it's sobering to look at it. A whole fake corporation set up so that a guy didn't have to be in prison for one of the few reasons why people probably ought to be in prison. The bland name. The obvious dates. I crossed checked this and it's the real deal. But I encourage anyone to do the same. It's just all out in the open.

@futurebird it seems that way. i don't Orange Is The New Black was wrong, just possibly a bit understated. the ruling class will be given a lighter sentence than house arrest, but the poorest Black person who sold a cigarette on the street can be killed on the spot.

@futurebird I feel like, as a rule, the ones with cash simply don't get in that position in the first place. Normally they manage to get themselves with exponentially lower sentences in the first place. (Like short term house arrest instead of long term prison for example.) Rich people have gotten away with pretty heinous stuff over the years with what amounts to a slap on the wrist. So normally they just straight up don't get that far in the first place.
