#GiftArticleYoung adults without #jobs that provide #HealthInsurance find that their options are limited & #expensive. The problem is about to get worse. There is one rite of passage unique to the #UnitedStates: the need to find your own #Health #Insurance by the time you turn 26.That is the age at which the #AffordableCareAct [#ACA / #Obamacare] declares that young adults must get off a family plan & figure out how to pay for #healthcare themselves.https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/09/health/young-adults-health-insurance-26.html?unlocked_article_code=1.d08._-6b.c0imj3EsNay5&smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare

When the #ACA was voted into #law in 2010, its so-called dependent coverage expansion was immediately effective, guaranteeing #HealthInsurance to millions of young Americans up to age 26 who would otherwise have not had coverage. But for years, #Republicans have whittled away at the infrastructure of the original law. Long gone is the requirement to buy #insurance.#US #healthcare #eugenics #HealthyIfYoureWealthy

Plans sold in the online insurance marketplaces have no stringent quality standards. #Costs keep rising, & #eligibility requirements & subsidies are a moving target. The erosion of the law has now created an “insurance cliff” for Americans who are turning 26 & don’t have a #job that provides #medical coverage.#US #healthcare #eugenics #HealthyIfYoureWealthy #ACA #Obamacare #HealthInsurance

Some, scared off by the complexity of picking a #HealthInsurance policy & by the #PriceTag, tumble over the edge & go without #insurance, in a #health system where the rate for an ER visit can be thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars.Today, an estimated 15% of 26-year-olds go #uninsured, which, acc/to an analysis by the health research group KFF, is the highest rate among Americans of any age.#US #healthcare #eugenics #DeathCare #HealthyIfYoureWealthy #ACA #Obamacare

IF they qualify [they won’t, not now, in #Trump’s America], young adults can sign up for #Medicaid, the #federal & #state program for #LowIncome Americans, in most but far from all states. But most buy cheap subpar #HealthInsurance that leaves them w/insurmountable #MedicalDebt following a #medical crisis. Others choose plans w/EXTREMELY limited networks, losing #access to their longtime #doctors & #medicines.#US #healthcare #eugenics #DeathCare #HealthyIfYoureWealthy #ACA #Obamacare

@Nonilex This is exactly where we are right now. Our son turns 26 next month. After high school, he worked and went to community college part time as he figured out what he wanted to do with his life. Now, he’s starting his senior year at university here in Texas, but drops off our insurance in a month. There seem to be no good options. He doesn’t have a job since he’s in school full time, so he doesn’t make enough to quality for Medicaid. COBRA insurance is available, but the cost is more for him as a single individual than it is for the rest of our family. Tying (affordable) health care to employment is one way those in power perpetuate a “wage slavery” society. And for those without jobs that will provide health care benefits, there is no viable fallback option at all.I’m beside myself with frustration, trying to help him figure out a possibility that will at least allow him to continue to get dental and wellness medical care and cover catastrophic potential events while he finishes school and tries to find a job.#HealthCare #law #AffordableCareAct #ACA #HealthInsurance #CultureOfDeath
