       The Australia slow internet jokes are truly over, soon we'll be seeing residential 2000/500, and my connection is getting a free upgrade to 750/50

       @BrodieOnLinux >Free upgrade.>Look inside.>Absolutely proprietary, with GPLv2-infringement occurring at every single household (did you receive a written offer for the source code and installation information for the "NCD"?).

       @wolf480pl @BrodieOnLinux Looking the the world map, Australia has quite low ping to the USA and Japan as there's submarine cables directly to those countries.

       Slightly misread, it's 2000/500 for commercial, 2000/200 residential

       @BrodieOnLinux Also, 50Mbit/sec upload is a joke, considering that's half of 100BASE-TX (a 28+ year old technology)?

       @Suiseiseki @BrodieOnLinux It's ~12000km in a straight line (great circle) between Australia and USA. At speed of light in vacuum, that's 40ms one way. IIRC speed of light in glass is 2/3 c, so 60ms one way in fiber. Or 120ms for a round trip. And that's a lower bound.

       @ainsworth @BrodieOnLinux Indeed, despite how used 10G SFP+ cards and PCIe adapters are quite cheap.Too many rent seekers on the pipes it seems.

       @BrodieOnLinuxI'm in regional Victoria, fibre to the premise and I'm travelling at around 250/20. Where can I find more info about the upgrade (which might be relative to your area, you're in SA, right?)

       @wolf480pl @BrodieOnLinux and yet we have local mirrors, CDN endpoints and all the things we need. Ping is mostly only relevant for gaming.
