@davidgerard @3a29 The issue is that in many cases the threat model is the vendor. Its no business of mine what people use but don't come on to social media to complain about it either, you bought into the product whether its FOSS or not.

@Eat_Your_PaisleysI don't invite vendors into my house. They're like vampires. They can't just walk in they need to be invited. And they always end up dying in the house and are them hard to get rid of or replace. Turn things on and off with your hand is engagement with your physical existence. It becomes invisible action. If it's a burden maybe you have too many things. People have disabilities, there are infinite special cases, and kinky or not preferences, that's all fine, but there's soooooo much whining about self inflicted tech problems in this larger space, that honestly, non ironically, would be best serverrf by simple removal. I am exceedingly technically skilled, and fkn old, and have done lots of fancy shit. Automaticity in the house has been reduced to some carefully tuned outdoor motion sensing stuff and one scheduleable thermostat. Zero appliances have net connections. Nothing is a bother and everything always works. Lots of people like to externalize their neuroses and turn them into hobbies. More power to them I guess. @davidgerard @3a29

@davidgerard This problem runs wider than FOSS, IMO, though that's a prime example. The more general form is "people of a certain mindset think the solution to every problem is a tool". Thus one ends up with arcane over-complex toolchains that create huge onboarding issues in order to deal with things like "probably people x and y need to talk sometimes".

@swaldmanOh yeah. Lots of people love to weild the complexity, in and of itself. They it's the means to some end is the justification, because then it's needed, or important, or something, and I did it and you can't, so there's that. Its a particular personal solution to insecurity and fear in a technological consumer society where mastering tech and complexity are badges of honor and bragging rights. A sort of a functional parallelism to macho. "Yeah I don't know how to do that" is about the worst admission possible in a tech culture. And if you say you don't *want* to do it.... Ok that's worse. @davidgerard

@davidgerard people who can't handle other people talking shit online and get personally offended by it should be much more careful about what and where they post. is this outburst helping anyone? do you think everyone who was about to write some bullshit comment under your next post will now think hard and conclude they can do better? no. you just took your frustration and poured it on everyone else. write. a. blog. and disble comments.

@3a29It can also be generalized, to stop doing things that do not serve you.And of course in circumstances you don't control, ... You don't have a choice. Obviously. And there, if it's a hotel room, who cares? Cover it with dirty underpants and ignore. Etc.I was talking about the assumed s of inflicted stuff. @davidgerard @Eat_Your_Paisleys

@davidgerard you don't need to read their free advice that was given in a spirit of self-improvement and allowing others to participate in raising themselves from their self-imposed immaturity

@tomjennings @davidgerard I'm here specifically to read posts that I like AND posts I don't like (it makes me think twice about the things I don't like and sometimes I find out I think bullshit). If I only wanted to read things I like amd occasionally get outraged I'd be on Facebook.
