On the one hand, if you don't exercise your right to protest how do you know if it still exists?On the other hand clashing with protests is something our president enjoys. His base enjoys it. IDK if you want to protest, protest that the Epstein Files have not been released. Release ALL the files.Stop protecting those powerful men who still think they are above the law.

A big advantage to this protest is that when FOX decided to run some clips of horrible long hair'd hippies and all of the weird city people their viewers don't like getting beaten up by the police (they enjoy those videos) it will be hard to find one without a sign that says "Release the Files."It kind of ruins it. I kind of think "no kings" is walking into a trap and they are doing it because they tend to trust institutions and police too much.

Many very lovable middle class liberals think that if they want to protest and if they are polite and follow the rules and say "thank you" to the cops when they pass they won't end up smeared over the curb.Because most of the time this is true. I don't think DC will be like this. I think it's an ugly powder keg.At the same time. I am not someone who would tell anyone to give into fear. Just have your eyes open go into this with a clear head.

Your moderate wealth will not protect you.Your college education and expertise will not protect you.Your whiteness will not protect you.Your valid US passport will not protect you. Go back and read about Kent State and the Freedom Riders again. That isn't ancient history it's a long-standing "American tradition" and the right has been seeking to recreate it.

Who will protect you? Well I might try. Your friends should try. We'll be the ones shouting for justice and trying to help cover your medical bills on the go fund me. I just don't want anyone to suddenly learn just how bad things have gotten with a physical object lesson. I've already seen enough people learn in that way. Go in knowing that your image will be used to demonized everything you love. Go in knowing that it isn't safe.

@futurebird You’re correct. I don’t think they are either. I do hope though that participants bring burner phones. I have 2 feature phones just for that purpose. When my girlfriend and I want to go to a protest, we leave our IDs and smartphones at home. We take our old skool feature phones. This is for a “just in case” scenario.

@futurebird The white moderate has such a sanguine attachment to the police state (as long as the right people are running it, natch) that it's probably an unvarnished good when they learn a hard lesson about what police are and why they exist.This No Kings protest will teach everyone who goes that police are not there to "protect and serve", but to suppress the people and guard the ruling class. I, for one, welcome my newly radicalized compatriots

@futurebird One thing I keep thinking about is how during the 2020 uprisings it started relatively small and it was the sight of NYPD cop cars intentionally driving into a crowd and SWAT in other cities shooting at people on their porches which lit a fire under the libs' collective asses. The next night the president was under siege hiding in a bunker and was rendered basically useless for the rest of his term.

But...I've been trying to tell people about the thousands of studies that say getting COVID even once is not a great way to live a long healthy life for the last 4 years, and most of them simply do not care until they develop Long COVID. Then I get a desperate email or DM.Most of humanity is incapable of learning practical lessons outside of their own experience. That's why teenagers and 20-somethings exist.

@futurebird @johnzajac On the upside, the LA National Guard occupation turned out to be a fart in a windstorm.Only 800 troops are being deployed to DC. So *probably* this will be another failed photo op of Riot Suppression Theatre where nobody comes out to play.And they will look stupid, and the NG will feel stupid, and they will know exactly who is making them look stupid.
