This is an attempt to establish precedent which he hopes will get other cities to surrender in advance.But ask yourself why he wants to set a precedent for occupying US cities with federal troops.

@Nonilex I predicted this to my family the moment Trump started talking about how D.C. need to get crime under control. @Nonilex thank you for covering this in such detail. This is horrifying and a waste of time for law enforcement and military. DC is relatively safe and most of the "bloodshed" and crime is related to "crews" of wayward youth that have been improving since the worst of the pandemic ended.

@Nonilex If this roundup is like most other cities that do this sort of thing, they simply bus them to other cities. They'll spend any amount of money to make the problem of the unhoused someone else's problem, rather than trying to solve the problem of people having no food, shelter, or access to basic needs.

@NonilexI don't think an emergency declaration changes the limitations in the law. He can legally federalize the DC police to be used on federal government property, but that's it. There's no reason a preliminary injunction can't be had against anything beyond what the law clearly allows in vert short order. The DC Circuit almost certainly would uphold such a ruling and SCOTUS would be treading on very thin ice if they were to overturn it. @dogzilla
