today I learned that bald eagles do not actually have an impressive screetch and so movies typically use a red tailed hawk noise instead

@georgia I'm at blackhat and my instructor was playing electronic normie music that would regularly play that sound as a sample, no distortion, just the cawwww screech

@georgia I saw a documentary recently in which ravens are circling at one point and the soundtrack plays the redtail screech and not a raven sound—like, my dudes . . . 🤦🏻‍♀️

@georgia@netzsphaere.xyz movies are full of things making sounds they wouldn't make (punches, swords, guns) but nobody suspects the bald eagle to actually sound very boring irl. also so many movies include loon calls despite taking place far from the loon's usual habitat. like, aquatic bird sounds don't fit in the middle of a desert and once you know you'll never not notice :c
