I don’t get why people who want to get off the internet delete their accounts. Like ah yes let’s just erase everything i did or at least erase the fact that it’s tied to my name so now only the people who knew me remember who the hell did somethingOr am I thinking this wrong

@rasp the NSA remembers, and if you make a loud enough splash then "the internet never forgets" may suddenly become true for you with some long-held receipts dropped. But there's a large practical space between "the NSA might pull my posts out of a database" and "my landlord might casually ask ChatGPT about my name and learn about my 2014 promise to burn down any apartment complex that evicted me."Also, you don't know what'll be heresy in the future. People really do not enjoy having 10-year-old shitposts brought up in court. That happened in the OJ Simpson case against a detective, and any time that happens, there's a chilling effect. People behave accordingly.Just like the state could abruptly steal all of your savings in gold, like happened less than 100 years ago in the US, the state could abruptly pass a retroactive law that anyone who played UNDERTALE game isn't allowed to fly domestic anymore.
