Do you really think things were better without running water, flush toilets, electricity, refrigeration, telephones, air conditioning and automobiles?

your metric of better is subjective. if it's based on propagation, it's not better. if better is existing while converting food into shit, then maybe. it's also impossible to judge these technologies as i have never lived without them. maybe the tablets.

@db All economic value is subjective, that's the core insight of Austrian economics. What of it? I subjectively think it's better to be alive than to be dead. And that it's better to have a flush toilet than a hole in the ground to shit in.

@Coyote Brit spelling probably due to location of the chart generating site's founders. I just found it in an image search.

@judgedread Yea, probably, our world in data founder/owner dude is deeply tied to the WEF, I remember finding that out a few years back when I was digging through the covid data there. If I remember right, there's a lot of "spook" Larry Ellison like stuff connected with that site?

@judgedread https://www.weforum.org/stories/authors/our-world-in-data/ USED to have info, even google knows that... They have been trying to hide the WEF connection by actively deleting a stuff that was there, written, clearly tying the to ever since Covid. I don't know if I could prove it now, it's probably shit I posted back in 2020 or 2021 on shitposter.club or noagendasocial that are both down now. You might find something on my Twitter about it, but it's probably something others can find, or the wayback machine can show? But no, I'm not confused. WEF is tied to Our World in Data. Like, founder was board member of WEF or some shit, not like "youth member" like Tulsi was...

@Coyote I don't doubt it. WEF is larded through the signal boosted opinion sphere. However that chart I posted matches histories of technology I've read. Nothing jumped out at me as being distorted. No need, the history of technology is a triumph of the modern West and the best argument against going back to stone knives and bearskins.

@judgedread The South had like 1/3rd its current population without AC. Anyone who says they'd be fine without it is either lying or lives in an area where it isn't necessary (like in an igloo with Eskimos)

@judgedread OK, I am older than nearly everyone here but:I consider our family to have been middle class when I was born but the things on the list we did not have were:Vacuum cleanerColour TV (or any TV)Cellular phoneMicrowaveAutomobileComputerHome air conditioningDryerSmartphone usage (wat dat?)Tabletpossibly no Washing machine or LandlineI have all of those things yet I cannot say that I live any better than as a child. Some things just take less time, but I am retired so that does not matter.
