@arcana I said necessary because I live in a mountain valley where every single night of the year is 100% humidity

@arcana Technically Canadian, but necessity. Our homes in the PNW are not designed for cooling and every year during the heat dome many ppl die.As a fibro sufferer, heat incapacitates me. I need to have a cool safe room in my house to survive.

@arcana Mexican here, I live in a neighborhood with no shadows. We were at 40C for several days.I consider an HVAC a necessity but I don't have the budget to buy one.

@arcana You're welcome! I do think, if we designed our houses and cities to handle 35°C and above it'd be different. But historically here we did not get those temps! Keeping them warm during the rainy damp was more important.Yesterday my temp meter outside hit 39°C

@arcana Hugely so! More green spaces to absorb the heat and trees to provide shade would made a massive difference. As it is, my townhouse gets south sun all day long. It gets dangerously hot w/o AC

@ageha @anemone @arcana cold related deaths far exceed heat related deaths (and even the most wild predictions about climate change admit heat deaths 'might' exceed cold deaths by 2050).
