alright here's my dumb fedi question of the day that should have stayed in drafts. So i'm just going to post it then run away and check for any replies later.do people use "anarchist" in the same tongue-in-cheek way people use "satanist"?in my experience people who call themselves satanists don't really worship satan - it's more of a protest against perceived pitfalls of organized religion.when people say they are anarchist or include words in their bio with the prefix "anarcho-" are they really espousing actual anarchy? Because that's always been a bit of a red flag for me. At least compared to the satanists - which is satire.Anyways, thanks for your responses :inv_pentagram:

Anthony Lavey was a legendary troll with an amazing ability to infuriate Christians, and also play "Entrance of the Gladiators" on the pipe organ with a serious expression the whole time. He made "The Satanic Bible" as part of his interest in the occult, in validating douchebaggery, and in pissing off the Christians. In it, he explicitly stated that they do not actually believe in Satan, or God, but instead are just atheists who appreciate the primal douchebag nature the rest of mankind suppresses.Annnd that kind of caught on. Just a teeny little bit.No such troll exists for anarchists, so yes, there exists no huge douchebag cult of anti-establishment asses proudly stating "Anarchists don't actually believe in anarchy we just like pissing people off who hate it."

@dannotdaniel Nope, mostly not ironic, I'm an anarchist, so are many others, and even the "anarcho-capitalists" who really should know better seem to be sincere in their delusion.

Basically rampant capitalists who don't want to pay any tax, or support any form of government.And they don't see the contradictions, because they are stupid.In answer to the OP - yes anarchism - as a whole or part of a description is absolutely genuine, but you need to understand precisely what they believe. I call myself an anarchist/socialist, which is really about anti-authoritarian socialism.Obviously, some people just use it as a posh way of saying "thug".
