@parker What kind of yurt are you building? Is it a kit or homemade?

@elftummy It's from a kit, so it's somewhat modernized. Will sit on a deck so it's not a permanent structure, counts as an accessory building, and won't need permits in my district. 32' in diameter, 13'8" high at the center.

@elftummy If you want a traditional Yurt, https://www.groovyyurts.com imports from Mongolia and does shipping runs to the US and CanadaIn the US, https://www.yurts.com does the typical modernized YurtBut I went with https://www.yurtzbydesign.com since they're in BC, Canada, had better prices, and a slightly larger max size. They also upgraded my 3'x5' windows to 4'x5' windows for free.

I bought one of these earlier in the year to make a workspace. I grabbed one from Yurt in the Dirt in AU. They're great. They will get very hot in summer if you don't place them and outfit them properly, though.

@Elf @elftummy Yeah I got a fairly fancy configuration, 6 4'x5' windows, a top 6' dome that opens, I'll probably get a heat pump for it, and I'll plant some more trees around it.

That sounds sick! I've got mine set up with a panorama window that overlooks the pond. Positioned it so that the platform it's on just faintly peeks over the edge of the pond so you get to see the whole surface while sitting down. I've planted some trees, reeds, so on. It'll be a goodly long while before I can comfortably hang out on a hot day in there, though. Certainly not the biggest I could have gotten, but as a hobby room I couldn't ask for better at the price. I often think about buying a little land up in the mountains and doing one up as a holiday house, tbh. I think a more permanent lumber structure is probably a better idea though sadly so tourists don't break in or w/e.

@Elf @elftummy I figure this one should be hard to break into since it's surrounded by a wooden lattice, plus a bunch of 3"-4" vertical posts every couple feet for snow and wind. Though I've got dogs so that's kind of moot.
