Oh yes, UK news sites are rolling out warnings about the security risks of VPN apps. At the same time they haven't been pointing out all the security risks created by the requirement to have everyone give their ID etc to any old random website/service. They aren't talking about the Online "Safety" Act vastly increasing the chances of data breaches of people's ID documents.

@slowe are random services the problem here? We are indoctrinated to let the state to build an infrastructure and to collect the information Gestapo, Stasi, KGB combined could never dream of. And these things are so actively celebrated, because in digital, democratic, highly educated, pro-everything good societies shit never happens.

@slowe Oh, that's escalated quickly :dragnsweats: Looks like politics in the all countries (democratic, authoritatian, with theocracy, totalitarian, etc) decided that their job not to support public services and build roads but oppress own citizens, embrace paternalism and remove all fun from the human lifes while embracing most radical shit from left and right-wing ideologies.Fucking New Dark Ages :dragnshock:

@contaminase @slowe @evgandr this whole safety act(s) negate net neutrality and put sentry above systems. online safety acts should be focused on providing education to parents for their spawn. we should not have guards on all public roads we travel. next thing you know we will have "advanced crypto" which is watery af or allows for a master key derivation gov or corp can unlock. people will use it, because they don't know much better. this is why many of us live in darknet(s). Трахни систему. Мы будем строить свои собственные 🕵

@jae @contaminase @slowe > online safety acts should be focused on providing education to parentsThis is the most interesting part — looks like some people want the government to be a BigParent for their childs or even other adults.Hope, the future psychiatrists will write a tons of dissertations and science articles about preventing this madness…

@evgandr @contaminase @slowe the future appears grim, i think. parents are often handing their kids an ipad or computer for babysitter. the youth of today in general don't understand the importance of exploration in real life. the parents need to best teach their offspring to thrive. scary world we live in

@jae Yep. A big part of this is parents not wanting to actually talk to their kids. Another part is politicians wanting really simple (for them; they just write some words and say "it's fixed"), technical, solutions to messy social problems. And it gives surveillance folks a boost.
