While I'm happy that Musk is pushing for the Epstein List, part of me thinks it's mostly out of spite that he wasn't invited to the island too. Also, a reminder: Musk & Trump may be fighting, but that does NOT forgive Musk for the damage he's caused.#musk #elonmusk #Epstein #trump #uspol #politics

@bazkie@beige.party @renwillis@mstdn.socialDemocracy isn't about the good guys winning — it's about no one having enough power to make opinions of everyone but the short circle irrelevant. So this is still a good thing! Bad guys fighting is better than good guys getting together and getting rid of the bad guys — because good guys tend to become bad overnight in this scenario, when they are the only ones in control. Hanging in balance and having to rely on the support of the people to get the upper hand is something very easy to lose and something very hard to regain. Those who seem good enough to remain in power forever make the worst dictators as soon as they get that power. And in the US — I don't think that it's possible, that is why I was never pessimistic about US politics.

@m0xEE @renwillis heh, not sure I fully agree with that, but it's an interesting new (for me) way of looking at power. thanks, gonna ponder that!

@bazkie @m0xEE all I'm saying is... if you get an urge to be pro-Musk because he's fighting Trump, don't. He's still a piece of shit man-baby. I didn't say anything about buddying up to others.

@renwillis@mstdn.social @bazkie@beige.partyDon't worry, I'm not debating your point, he's still bad — even if he was good, I'm just not into personality cults 😅It's just a sidenote. Mature democracies are more or less resistant to this — having mature democratic institutions. People in young democracies often fall into this trap — thinking that they can make the right choice once and then it's all roses, but it never plays out. For example this pretty recent case: Lithium mining being nationalised in Brazil (?🤔), people born in mature democracies, especially left-leaning, were supportive of this — country's natural resources are now working for the people, what can go wrong? Everything — because this isn't what's actually happening, what is — concentration of power. That is true, international companies are exploitative — but as soon as they leave, people are left alone with their governments, which tend to become authoritarian left unopposed.I don't even have a horse in the US game, being Russian, I've already lost mine — what I have is having seen this happen with my own eyes. Like I said, having democratic institutions is good, and although Trump is doing a lot to dismantle them — they are still there. Checks and balances are important. Competition in the political space is good — neither of the sides has to be the perfect choice, but as long as they are competing for your support, you have a say. And this is why I think that Trump-Musk schism is a good thing!
