@verita84 @lain wouldn't you still end up routing everything through a vps to obfuscate your location though or is that more just route it though a vpn service.

@verita84 @lain it's one of those the things I'd want to self host and I want to be visible publicly be it a website or a pleroma instance would be something I'd want to obfuscate. It just seems really naive to selfhost something current year without some barrier in a sense with how dox happy the easily offended are.It's like man I want to self host a game server but then I go maybe I'm better off paying for a serverbox so I don't have to deal with people connecting to my actual IP.You are right about it being a boon to self hosters who just want easy access to their home services like jellyfin or their own self hosted cloud storage though.

@verita84 well for a website I think a vps is largely fine for obfuscating it. Gameserver I think it leads to it being scuffed doesn't that just introduce more ping overall for everyone but you the selfhoster if you have to route the traffic through a vps.

@Spooke I use Wireguard with a 1500 MTU from my VPS to my house for DRC and poster.place and it's working great. The ping from the VPS to my home router is less than 1 ms

@lain for... Business? Maybe....? I am a network engineer at an ISP and the amount of infrastructure needed for a 10gig..... That has GOT to be expensive for an individual.... That's usually the bandwidth of a newer PON card.... Which they can split into 32 individual customers....
