So far I like Kumon as a language learning tool. It's tedious but I've already noticed ~*gainz*~ from doing all the stupid exercises as directed. However... I didn't think the location was that far but now it's annoying. Also, it's fine when the students are the older woman, the little kid learning Japanese, and one or two of the kids. Once the rest of the kids get in... it's a zoo... literally how do you survive as a teacher...

I think I'd rather sit at one of the nearby cafes and do my exercises, but the teacher has guilt-tripped me into staying there to finish my workbook (it takes about 30-40min). Inevitably I make a mistake and have to redo something, but once the kids get in I'm kinda trapped in the corner. I can deal with toddlers but the elementary schoolers are wary of me. (I would be too!) Also the boys are obnoxious as hell.

I'm tempted to transfer to a closer location. The problem is that is more or less functions as a combination Latchkey program and special needs program. I noticed a few of them should be in speech therapy, and this teacher is obviously not equipped for that. It's summer break so the kids need somewhere to go, but it's such a mess.

Chat... maybe I should be doing the correspondence course... or should I open up my own adults-only Kumon center? Bwahaha. After class, we could drink beer or oolong tea and shoot the shit.

@soycamo I did the correspondence course for a while. Didn't really work for me but that might just be my 51 year old brain struggling. You need to write Kanji a lot which you just don't need to do in real life. So in that way it's not so useful.

@Haikyoneko au contraire, I have to be able to read and write a LOT of kanji at work. I don't have to do signage like I did at a previous job, but I still have to write notes and deal with a lot of written/typed information.

@soycamo ah, so maybe it's the right (write) choice for you
