It blows my mind that in the year of our lord two thousand and twenty five, the most efficient and effective way of transferring a file from one device to another remains emailing it to yourself as an attachment.

@stavvers For a brief time, phones at least had perfectly cromulent mass storage, and now they got MTP. (While Apple is doing its own thing, as it is wont to.) And linking two PCs using something like the nullmodem of yore? Forget about it.

@ozzelot @stavvers Actually don't forget about it, because it still works. You can link two Windows PCs ethernet to ethernet, they will both get a private IP, and you can then NET SHARE and NET USE like it was the 20th century and computers were still sane.I do this when I need to copy a lot of user files.

@stavvers One of my most common rants is, yeah, we have pocket computers, and I can't send yours a file from mine without a corporate go-between. Oh, thats not the real complaint. The real complaint is no one notices. Cept you and some others.

@stavvers That said, the one thing good about email is that it's system agnostic. There's a mild lesson in there. I'm practical terms it's often all we got. Which totally sucks.
