trying to build software using MASM 6.0b in DOSBox is a very different development process than modern development.I mean, I've never tried to compile a file and had the computer reboot itself

nah I don't think I need OS/2 support. I don't think I'll be compiling any software for OS/2 anytime soon

I need docker for DOS. I hacked around with doing dos in docker a while ago when I was hacking on VGAPride rewrite #2 (RIP), but a real docker-dos would be sweet

yeah it's not working properly. Possibly I have a version mismatch: the game works by having a MOAG.EXE that sets up the 3D segments, then it calls 3.exe. I only rebuilt 3.exe (the source to MOAG was lost), but I can't get MOAG to launch 3.exe. it just instantly crashes back out

@foone Oh. Ohhh. I remember that screen. I never could learn to play it properly. Also, I didn't read English at the time. But the nice ambulance always came to my rescue!

there's two versions of the 3.exe: 3r and 3s. I assumed this was registered & shareware, but 3r is the one I got working (with horrible slowdown) and 3s doesn't seem to work, I just get an error (I assume) of "101"

@foone I first taught myself C using Megamax Laser C on an Atari ST. Its IDE sped up a lot of file operations by using a RAM cache. But since in C in TOS/GEM you're very much working without a net and can easily corrupt memory, going a long time without flushing that thing was like rolling the dice.

@foone Docker for DOS, or DOS in Docker?DOS in Docker would be a thing - some sort of shim on top of the linux kernel to run a DOS executable. put that in a container and figure out how to attach/detach the screen and keyboard. Bob's yer uncle. But Docker for DOS? That's DESQview. "run N different things that can't run at the same time on the same box because they'd conflict" was DESQview's bread-and-butter.

@foone are you talking about a docker that uses DOS as the host OS in order to run containerized DOS applications or containerizing a DOS emulation and development toolset for?
