I'm so tempted to do a X11 vs Wayland blind gaming latency test, this topic comes up so much but I'm convinced the vast majority of people cannot tell the difference unless they're told they're on Wayland

@BrodieOnLinux That's interesting idea. Maybe I'll do the same.I have interesting case: on Windows I can play Oblivion Remastered at locked 30 fps + frame generation to 60, and it feels smooth. But the same configuration on Linux feels laggy. If I remember correctly, there's no "native" wayland support in Steam, and we're using xwayland compatibility layer, and maybe with native x11 it will be smoother.

@BrodieOnLinux Is there even a latency difference? First I’m hearing of it.

@martinlastname It's an often discussed problem, the question is whether you can see it when it's not in a spreadsheet

@BrodieOnLinux https://zamundaaa.github.io/wayland/2021/12/14/about-gaming-on-wayland.htmlIf it’s anything like the numbers here, I’d expect “not noticeable”so long as it’s “mailbox” or “freesync” settings. Otherwise, ~7ms delay is one frame at 120fps, and definitely noticeable for dialed in competitive players. But not enough for most (read: 99% of) players to care unless they’re told to. Idk, just spitballing after getting curious.

@BrodieOnLinux I find Wayland way faster..Although, my jumping off point for switching was buying a much better graphics card. I'm sure that's not significant.
