is there an easy Linux distro that does encryption out of the box during installation? Lubuntu doesn't have that

@kaia It should support it though? It should be under advanced options when you choose how to install it (the erase disk and install, or something else screen).

@kaia There choose LVM and tick the encryption checkbox. It should to full disk encryption. Without LVM it does only buggy file encryption.

@aetios @kaia @toast And in some sense it's not the task of the casual/average joe to do this kind of specialized job. I'm all for to learn about it if they wish but they should consider that computing should be managed by people in which it's their job.

@kaia Not sure what level of encryption you're talking about. Full disc encryption is a tic of a box and entering a password twice for most modern distros.PCLOS is my go-to for beginners. It's solid, has a good community, and avoids anything bleed edge.

@RedTechEngineer @diesch hey it's my mistake for not seeing it.I'm usually waiting for someone jumping in and asking why I'm not using this much easier distro, but 100% of responses ask why I'm not using Trisquel Gentoo Linux From Scratch Self Compiling Linux Kernel in Rust.

@toast @kaia @aetios >But everyone should know how antibiotics work, and everyone should be able to make a general purpose computer do every day tasks, on their ownI agree, but they don't.There are 4 simple rules that nobody can/wants to practice either due to the lack of information or demoralization.1: A computer is repairable.2: a computer doesn't lose data.3: A computer doesn't get data stolen.4: People must posses what they bought. You don't need to understand logic gates to understand this but yet most can't fathom the problem even tho it can be resumed as such:Describing the concepts of software freedom is as easy as describing freedom to drink water but it's as complicated to explain the ramifications of everyday usage of the freedom of drinking water>Now people are asking ChatGPT what antibiotics are (spotted irl) One can only wonder what a fully censurable encyclopedia in real time can do on critters who have social conformity as their unconscious trust system.

@toast @mangeurdenuage @aetios it's a bit unfair comparing a time where a peasant could know everything he should know, being illiterate and having the Sunday mass as only education, vs us today where merely knowing all JavaScript frontend frameworks is impossible. even a medieval polyhistor did not have to face as many categories of knowledge than we expect from a salaried knowledge worker. that these salaried knowledge workers have not read Sallust or don't know advanced type theory when there's so much to know.

@toast @kaia @aetios >you do not need a single js frontend framework in order to make literally any webapp that existsBut you do need to know it exist and that you must filter them via a web firewall.>if you have a car, chances are you generally know how it worksI bought a car for 2k that was approved by a certified entity that it passed the technical control, it didn't, now I have no car, it worked but not within allowed regulations.>chances are you generally know how that ends up at its destinationNot really, joke here has been that the post office often looses mail/packages, which is true.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi3ogwj8y3QYou have to pay extra for that "certified" paper that tell you that they got it.>people have no conceptualization as to what a folder is, let alone how digital mail functionsYou can apply that logic to the peasant not know what microbes in the soil were but the main difference is that they aren't man made.Abstraction always base itself on real world issues. People don't have to know in details information theory, or what is TCP/IP but they have to understand that it is like national and international post office routing in which each town can implement their own standards and languages.

@kaia You can't see this, but most distributions of the kernel, Linux have LUKS compiled in, thus do encryption out of the box.Trisquel GNU/Linux-libre does support encryption.
