Is it better to let people know when you see them doing something when others have done something similar previously?I've found myself doing this a lot around live coding, on one level it seems helpful to know about prior art, and fun to talk about weird old projects/events. On the other it could be stifling to obsess over identifying the 'first' person to try something, and might feel like old people are trying to pitch their tents all over your garden.

@yaxu 98% of the time when someone tells me "oh that reminds me of X" i've already heard of "X" and it comes across a bit patronising but the 2% of times is pretty usefulbut also sometimes it's good to be free from being defined only in the context of what has already happened. like don't reduce my work to "it's just X but Y" like don't limit me in that way! i much prefer the completely wild links that people tell me. tell me a connection that's interesting and unexpected, not obvious
