How can we get more people talking about the inevitable consequences of forcing millions of people to leave their homes in a short period of time?I don't want to wait until the camps become "a problem" to have that conversation. I feel like none of these news outlet talk about the logistics and what they imply. You can deport thousands of people. It would be bad. You shouldn't but it could be done. You can't do millions. I feel sick.

Pre-WWII, many thousands of Jews were deported to Siberia from e.g. Lithuania and Belarus. Post-WWII there were different forced transfers in different directions. It goes without saying that this killed people, a lot of people.

@justbob It's always been a problem along with the massive prison system. But this is on a very different order of magnitude if they keep going in the direction they are going. And it gets harder because they people with places to go are leaving first. The proportion of people who will be "detained" of those snatched from their home will only grow.

@futurebird This would be on a similar scale as the deportations and transports to concentration camps in Nazi Germany (some 4 million people interred in total, in a population of 80 million).This was logistically a huge task and stretched the system and it only worked because it didn't matter how the people were treated or if they died during transport or in the camps from disease and starvation (I don't mean extermination camps here).

@marymessall I don't think it's natural for even very racist people to just want people to die. In their imagination the unwanted people simply go away. We are "deported" to a nice farm upstate. I don't say this to absolve anyone but rather to try to make it clear that the same pattern is emerging. When people live somewhere that is their home. If they had somewhere else to go or wanted to leave they would. When the state forces them to move it's always a form of violence and some will die.

There are definitely employees who prefer to hire workers who can't complain to OSHA or form a union without being worried about getting deported. @gear But if the deportations do stall there we are exactly where we started. No. In fact it is worse. Wages will be even lower in any profession with lots of undocumented workers. This is a better way to do this. Make a program that takes a few years and does some checks and naturalize people. At the same time that you do this, monitor those industries so they don't bring in tons of new people. Making people who have lived here and are part of communities leave sucks.

If you think it's acceptable that an entry level position requires foreign language competency, a college degree, some sort of specific training or taking up a wage that doesn't allow you to legally live with it, then you're extremely delusional.For many it's not to feel like a victim. They are reasonable grievances since i think it's pretty fucked that someone without a college degree needs to jump through impossible hoops and work 4 different jobs to make a decent living. Why would you need 5 years of experience and knowing a foreign laguage to work at a supermarket? Meanwhile you have people without a legit driving license (and it's usually fake) and that can barely speak english coming over and be given trucker jobs that require a certain degree of competency.
