@navi@social.vlhl.dev I recommend looking for a Monado XR Runtime supported Windows Mixed Reality headset, such as the HP Reverb, Samsung Odyssey or Lenovo Explorer.Microsoft has dropped support for these headsets on Windows recently so for Windows 11 users these headsets are e-waste right now and they do not work! This means they are very cheap on the used market typically around 50 to 150 euro, compared to the 600 to 800 euro you'd pay when they were new. From the list of WMR devices I own the Samsung Odyssey and I bought it for 60 euro I believe? The head tracking works completely using 6 degrees of freedom. The only thing that currently does not work fully yet are the controllers. They only have 3 degrees of freedom tracking, but 6 degrees is being worked on.I don't use it very often but I think it's great technology for the little amount of money I spent on it.

@SuperDicq while i do want to play beat saber and hl alyx, currently i'm kind of more interested in seeing how XR wayland compositors work and behave, so controllers are not a big requirement at the time, i'll look into monado then

@navi@social.vlhl.dev Yes, Monado makes developing applications for these headsets really easy and convenient.I've not tried any Wayland compositor stuff, but I did play around modify the code of this classic demo and I thought it was quite easy to understand.

@navi@social.vlhl.dev Instead of playing proprietary video games I recommend looking at Overte instead, it is a free software replacement for VRChat.I've been meaning to log in and hang out more but I just didn't have the time unfortunately. I know there's a lot of friendly people in this community who know a lot about OpenXR, Monado and VR on GNU/Linux.
