Someone should trademark "Dum Appliances, LTD" And just make dumb products. Their slogan could be "Our stuff is dumb, and we like it that way."

I remember seeing a refrigerator, not too long ago, that you could see inside of by tapping on the front. It wasn't the entire fridge, just like 1/3 of it. I wonder what the point of such a feature is. I'm not a boomer but this "add extra technology to shit for no reason" gimmick market makes me want to circumcise myself with a hole puncher.

I try to avoid all that shit but it’s getting more difficult. and even if you find a “dumb“ appliance they purposely build them to shit the bed in 5yrs so they can sell you another.just bought a Speed Queen washer because I was tired of buying a new one every 5 yrs. will report on how long it lasts.

i want one of those restored 1960’s fridges. they have wire grate shelves and lazy susans and great design features. plus they run forever. dont have needless tech. and are repairable. just good well made no nonsense fridges. plus they would look cool in my mid century modern home built in 1949

@Eiregoat @matty @GluedToTheScreen By having a camera switch on and off and the additional manufacturing process that uses more energy than it would likely save in opening the fridge. Also another point of potential failure on the product where anything between the camera itself and screen can malfunction and need repair/replacement.Just seems like more 'green' claptrap that actually doesn't help anything but sell to gullible, right on, sorts with more money than sense.

Super easy. I bring it to 180° let it drop to 115°-120° pour it back in the jar with 1/4 cup of the starter, wrap it in a towel and toss it in a cooler to maintain temp. Do it right before bed, wake up and it’s ready for the fridge.

I'm a millennial it's all just extra shit designed to break down within 2 years at most. When I went to buy stuff for my house I specifically said to the salesman I don't want anything bluetooth or any nonsense I just wanted a cooker etc. and thankfully he instantly understood lol.If I'm a programmer and I don't trust any of that shit that should tell you something. Even with vehicles for example I've been deliberately searching out simple tech and motorbikes seem to be the best option for that, they're the only type of vehicle that has stayed mostly pure.

I have a real use case for smart lamps. I want to add light switches to places where there is no wiring, and I don't want to destroy my walls to do so. So I've looked into it, even bought a few components. First tests went fine, so I bought more to cover all places where I wanted to do that, and behold, it doesn't work. The stupid fucking things only work with a single switch at a time - unless you add a hub that must be connected to the internet. There's no technological limitation on multi-pairing, it's just a RF receiver on the lamp and a battery-powered transmitter on the switch, but they limit it to one just to force you to have the retarded hub and have to connect it to the internet. How I fucking hate it.

The more complex a fridge is, the more likely it's gonna break (and repairing one isn't gonna be easy). Even just adding a water/ice dispenser would be annoying to fix in the longterm. I think the classic top mount freezer/fridge combo is the closest to a dumb fridge that most people want. As for the brand, I'm not sure other than Frigidaire/Electrolux being one of the oldest fridges that might be reliable enough (or at least better than LG and Samsung). I can't think of any other honorable mentions, though.

@GluedToTheScreen I know CFCs are bad, but here me out. If we applied the same faggy handling procedures to cfc fridges that we do to current year refrigerants, we'd prolly have more reliable and likely more efficient refrigeration.

that matched my blutooth experience with car + phone. if i connect my wife's phone it no longer recognizes mine, and i must 'pair' again. if you need to reset bt and pair every time you use the switch, it's easier to just wire in a mechanical switch. Bluetooth was never really well defined. mostly its just another vulnerble sytem for hackers to abuse.
