@praustrian @randahl Not sure where you live (Austria, really?). Where I'm from, #unions definitely don't use violence, but regularly negotiate favorable salaries and working conditions, as well as provide free legal advice for their members. Historically, the #union movement is the reason we have universal health care in #Germany . Unions are what keeps rich people from screwing over poor people.

@leamusi Unions certainly cannot achieve their goals without #violence or the threat of violence. They always seek to obtain wages above the market. And the main victims of their "class struggle" are consumers and #workers who are not union members. Unions, I repeat, are the real exploiters.

This is the weirdest thing that I have read this month.I agree with Lea, you should go out in the fresh air and talk to some normal people. Some achievements of Unions that you also benefit from: higher wages, better benefits, safer workplaces, protection against unfair treatment, minimum wage, the 40-hour workweek, child labor laws, and various worker protections.In several countries, unions achieve this by strategically working with management.@praustrian @leamusi#Unions #Success

I'm kinda with you that unions oftentimes have too much power, especially when it comes to protecting the worst of their members from getting fired when they need to be, but those lists of the achievements of unions is quite true and I think the primary justification for their existence.

I find the power of police unions in the USA indeed counterproductive to the mission of the police.A union should not defend bad and corrupt behavior of their members, otherwise it will become less effective and is able to achieve less for all good members of their union.@realcaseyrollins @praustrian @leamusi

@paulschoe @praustrian @leamusi They (and to a lesser extent teacher's unions, which protect abusers at times) are the main reason I oppose unions even though I acknowledge the good that they do.
