My husband is making me feel bad about punking out on going to a roof deck party by telling me about all of the ants that were on the roof and it's WORKING. :(I just didn't really want to go out today. But I will go next time.

@futurebird Don't fall for it, it's a dirty little trick! The next party's host won't let you visit their ants. They'll expect you to talk to them and stuff instead.

@futurebird You didn't punk out, you sent him in advance to make sure it was safe. Job done, go have a drink. :)

The hosts of the party are annoyed I didn't come and get the ants, but I don't even know if I know those ants, they could be anyant.

@futurebird You might not know them personally, but you know everyone who knows an ant you don't. It's Two Degrees of Futurebird.

@futurebird Once in lab meeting someone mentioned a fly gene and one of my coworkers turned to me expectantly. I said, What? and he wanted to know details about it and I said, There are like 18,000 fly genes, I don't know them all by name.(But that one I did, to my mild annoyance, and he gave me a smug smirk when I told him what it does.)

@futurebird I like “anyant” because it not only clearly substitutes for anyone, but also it highlights how humans use language to reinforce individuation (any *one*), but ants probably wouldn’t.

@futurebird I think we all know you don’t know every ant. Some new ones are hatched every day and haven’t yet had time to be introduced to you yet.
