This is what BBSing at 300 baud looks like. In 1984, this was about as good as it got for me.Tonight, I needed to hit a couple of Atari / ATASCII BBSs and all I had at hand was a C64. So..I used "AtariTerm", which does ATASCII, but tops out at 300 baud. It's like riding a bike through a neighborhood you usually fly though at 40MPH. You see and notice things you would usually miss.I am no stranger to 300 baud, but it's been a while.#Atari #ATASCII #bbsing #retrocomputing

@paradroyd Ah, Hollywood sci-fi computer speed it appears. đ I did all my BBSing on my Atari XE, but my first modem was 1200. I can still hear it in my mind though.

@paradroyd @mdhughes Watching ASCII and ANSI BBS âgraphicsâ come in line by line was SO exciting. We couldnât wait to discover what the image was going to be, or what the (giant ansigraphic) letters/words were.

@paradroyd I can remember thinking, as a teen, "why would you want 1200 baud? That's faster than I can read!" (And I read pretty fast). But then, games were 8k back then.

@paradroyd âYou may not like it, but this is what the exact opposite of peak performance looks like.â
