I really enjoy Kitboga's videos where he messes with online scammers. It's really entertaining and interesting stuff and these people because they obviously deserve to be messed with and it shows very well how these people work. However I really dislike the fact that he started promoting his own proprietary software called "Seraph Secure", which is ironically a scam...His software is proprietary so it is taking away control from its users for "protection", it's extremely super hypocritical.

@SuperDicq >His software is proprietary so it is taking away control from its users for "protection", it's extremely super hypocritical.just like Rossman, he doesn't like when companies forbid him to have access to work while he does the same with his futa software.

@SuperDicq i left scambaiting right after noticing how almost everyone's slowly starting to turn it into money (especially through partnerships with sketchy services like aura)tho, tons of respect to nanobaiter, pierogi from scammer payback, and especially jim browning– absolutely top tier workkitboga's also pulling off outstanding social engineering, but it feels like scambaiting being his only job isn't doing him much good

@xyla@shitpost.trade I saddens me deeply when smart people who know a lot about technology and its especially its ethics completely disregard them in order to make a quick buck.I don't criticize who don't know any better for developing and promoting proprietary software, but in this case it just feels hypocritical.

@mangeurdenuage@shitposter.world The case of Louis Rossmann saddens me especially because he is absolutely aware of the free software movement and actually still often mentions good examples of things Richard Stallman has done or does in the name of freedom. But yet he promotes his own proprietary software company and explicitly talks of "Linux" and "open source" and not "GNU/Linux" and "free software".

@eskuero@mstdn.io Obviously no way to know for sure, but from the limited numbers of videos that I've seen I have not found any evidence that his videos are fake. He manages to make a lot of videos because he's basically calling scammers on a livestream as a full time job.

@SuperDicq @eskuero There's plenty of scammers around the world to make calling them a full time job easy.

@SuperDicq it's not a scam just because it's proprietary (obviously we have different ideologies here), but i feel like it's a bad value. the only reasonable way its database could scale is via user reports, and paying monthly for a user reported service is a really horrible value. i believe he has good intentions with it, and that it's a necessary evil to keep his team funded somehow, but i don't really like the software and selling tactics either

@zonk@shitposter.world All proprietary software is a scam.A Scam, or a confidence trick, is an attempt to defraud a person or group after first gaining their trust. Confidence tricks exploit victims using a combination of the victim's credulity, naivety, compassion, vanity, confidence, irresponsibility, and greed. This accurately describes how proprietary software works. It checks all the boxes, exploiting victims through credulity, naivety, compassion, vanity, confidence, irresponsibility and greed all apply to proprietary software. i believe he has good intentions with itIntention does not matter. It is the result that counts. Having good intentions does not make you immune to criticism. and that it's a necessary evil to keep his team funded somehowFree software is free as in freedom, not price. Distributing the software and source code under a free license shouldn't influence sales.
