Just so everyone is clear, I record all of my videos on Wayland, OBS on Wayland for the core functionality doesn't have any problems, whether that's capturing the screen or individual windows. There are issues with docks but that's due to CEF at this point not OBS

I don't know how you can look at OBS, look at the fact that I record all my videos on Wayland and then come to the conclusion that screen capture in OBS doesn't work on Wayland

@BrodieOnLinux Never underestimate the mental gymnastics people go through to prove you wrong 😁

You just don't know any better @BrodieOnLinux that's why it works for you. If you knew what you were doing, it would not work.

@BrodieOnLinux Had my «OBS no worky on Wayland» yesterday. Humble RTFM saved the day, just needed to set PipeWire up. Now OBS is totally worky on Wayland.

@BrodieOnLinux probonopd’s list of Wayland issue still says that OBS doesn’t support Wayland. The worse part is that he still actively updates that list, he just doesn’t fix any of his disinformation.

@BrodieOnLinux It doesn't work for me. I tried streaming with it and it's an absolute no go. I think that has more to do with my setup than anything else.

@BrodieOnLinux as an aside, I feel like a recurring theme with people on YouTube trying to make videos about whether Linux Desktops are viable it's always "can I do my incredibly specific video production workflow that I intentionally built around Windows software?" And usually when there's a problem, that's where it breaks down. But for people who aren't capturing and editing videos, these hot takes are all but useless.

@BrodieOnLinux isn't the problem that some compositors haven't implemented protocols like xdg-desktop-portal-gnome or similar? half the reason I'm on niri is because it implemented that and a few others that provide the functionality I need

@dirk The individual window capture thing is a known wlroots problem, it's why I don't recommend anyone use sway

@BrodieOnLinux Speaking of the CEF issue: it's bloody annoying, but sadly OBS can't do much about it. Currently I have to hold back the OBS version so I can use the Twitch docks under Sway by forcing X11 mode đŸ€”
