       @johnmacintosh Hmm. I'm wondering if the 1950 ball point pen cap really had a hole at the "pointy" end like modern ones do? I'm pretty sure they didn't have in the early 2970s when I was in secondary school. The holes came later to stop kids choking when they swallowed the pen tops.The image shows a holed cap for both pens.
