@DarkMahesvara It's more of a backup if anything. But I'll look around for better Linux OSes. Been in a contingency kind of mood lately.

@smugumin @DarkMahesvara @SenSen_93 Mint is pretty good for newbies.SteamOS is kinda directed for games, and I don't think it's a proper distro to run as a daily driver.

@smugumin @DarkMahesvara @SenSen_93 BTW, if you guys want something "SteamOS-like", I have been having a good time running Bazzite in my machine.https://bazzite.gg/It is based on Fedora Atomic and the idea is for it to be a "SteamOS-like", but made for use in desktops.Biggest advantages of it are: - it comes basically ready to go, chances are it will be fully compatible with all your hardware (even Nvidia cards, which are usually more annoying to make work well in Linux) - it's pretty hard to break, since it's an "atomic distro" (it either updates fully or it doesn't update, you never get stuck in a situation where some packages get updated while the others aren't and then stuff breaks like it may happen) - it comes with a lot of stuff already prepared for games. Steam with Proton and all that jazz, tools for configuring Proton, tools for installing games from places that aren't Steam, etcThe main disadvantage, especially for Linux purists, is that due to the fact it is an "immutable distro", you can't willy nilly install any program you want through the package manager, change the desktop environment, etc. You are limited to install programs through Flatpak, which is a kind of containerized app that goes "over" the system. In practical terms for the layman user, it works like installing a Windows app.But it's different enough from regular Linux that power users dislike it. Also, as mentioned, you are limited on installing certain stuff that goes down to "system level", like changing desktop environments and such. But, honestly? I am a "Linux power user", and I have been using Bazzite for over a year now, with no problems. I can both play my games and do my job in it just fine, and stuff just works without having to tinker with it.I have done some "distro hopping" in this meantime to test some stuff, but ended up going back to it, because, again, it just works. There are, of course, some things I may want to do as a power user that I can't easily do here, like using Hyprland as my desktop, or installing widgets like eww.And that's why I'm trying to create a NixOS install in a VM before transfering it to my PC, in the hopes that after having NixOS fully set up I'll never have to worry again. But it's being so annoying to fix the myriad of issues that arise that I'm seriously considering just giving up and staying happy in Bazzite.

@DarkMahesvara @SenSen_93 @smugumin Faggot mascot?I know u-blue (the project that turns Fedora Atomic into other distros) has a rainbow flag in the logo, but I haven't seen any "faggot mascot" for Bazzite.

@Suzu @SenSen_93 @smugumin troon* lunduke made a video about it. afaik its not really effecting the OS itself. it is fedora based after all so it comes with the territory sadly.https://lunduke.substack.com/p/gaming-linux-distro-targets-children

@DarkMahesvara @SenSen_93 @smugumin meh, Lunduke is a sperg most of the time.I have never seen anything like that.OK, I just saw @TopBep reply.Meh. They don't shove the tranny mascot or their stupid variant logos in the system, so whatever. In their own website you need to scroll almost all the way down to see said tranny mascot, and there is no stupid flag with her.Unfortunately we live in <current world> during <current year>, so it's almost impossible to have any project that is not pozzed with trannies. Heck, NixOS had a huge drama last year with a "transphobic" dev being ousted and then they created a fucking marxist CoC and a "community council" and they spent most of the time discussing how many minority chairs said council should have. If you don't want trannies in your code you have to steer clear from open source projects, unfortunately.Thankfully it seems support for this bullshit is slowly but surely dying off, and part of the proof is that I had no idea said tranny mascot even existed, because it hasn't been pushed onto me even in official Bazzite channels.

@Suzu @DarkMahesvara @SenSen_93 @TopBep @smugumin Nix is probably even worse on the subversion chart if anything else. It wasn't that they removed a dev. I believe they removed the guy who started the project in a coup. So the original head of nix was straight up nixed by CoC worshipping activists.

@Spooke @DarkMahesvara @SenSen_93 @TopBep @smugumin oh, Nix was a shitshow but it wasn't just "CoC trannies".What really happened was that a military defense contractor (that uses Nix) sponsored a Nix event and a whole bunch of people threw a hissfit about it because "killing people with drones is bad" or something like that. It ended with the guy who literally started the project (Nix was his doctor's thesis) stepping down from his "benevolent dictator for life" role (which, to be fair, was not a role he really wanted, and it seems he was a bit eager to just leave it).Plot twist: the guy is now with a company called Determinate Systems, which works with defense contractors using Nix and also is one of the major Nix contributors. There are a bunch of trannies who got really mad because they weren't able to just do a coup on the project after the creator stepped down and they left and created a fork called Lix.
