Why would someone subject themselves to that when they can hop on a phone and use google docs with no friction? Best case scenario, windows will pivot back to being more of a cut down business oriented OS geared toward supporting infrastructure rather than a glorified ad network to inject slop into unsuspecting boomer's eyes

The entire premise of Android Go is literally this: making Android run on the cheapest, shittiest hardware possible to push phones to these countries.

Overseas carriers are much more lenient on which phones will work; so you can in fact buy some Chinese or used phone somewhere and use it forever.

at this exact moment I have three gateways still in the boxes from when we moved 5 years ago. Japan had the DOS computers that couldn't run normal DOS or DOS programs, Europe had the home micros, Macs were always a thing, and the high end market was RISC and UNIX before stagnation led to that being replaced with X86 and either Linux or Windows.It 100% can happen again IMO

Apple was skimping on cooling that other competitors got right and had the CPUs die physically.Most of the time the issues are the classic "some component went out on the board" or "the SSD that's soldered died".

Performed worse than cheap pieces of junk for the same loads (sometimes taking 7x longer for the same jobs), the touch bar would glitch out constantly, it would of course maintain 100C during loads of more than 15 seconds or so and it had little pin holes for fans that went WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRpractically whistling struggling to push air out. I'm sure the M series is a lot better but that mess definitely left a sour taste in my mouth.

@why they're not shunning windows. They're just using their phones and don't have a compelling reason to use their PC (or go out and buy a mac). It's a natural drop off, but I think the deterioration of windows into a sluggish ad delivery platform has likely encouraged users to make that transition along the way.

"I got nothin' to hide" "they track you through yer phone anyway" ..Also there are a lot of kids who have used free chromebooks through Google's programs to get them into schools (this is super fucked up because those things are loaded with school spyware).
