@Svantovit Maybe you should clarify what you are looking for, because there are a lot.

@Svantovit My recommendation for apocrypha is going to start, and end with the book of Enoch.I've tried several of others, but most do not have anything meaningful to say.On the other hand, the Bible assumes you already know the book of Enoch, and so if you want to understand the rest, it is like a corner stone.

@Svantovit If you are looking for Jesus doing magic tricks the childhood Gospel by Thomas is kinda interesting. If you are looking for angels that could be aliens, maybe the book of enoch. If you wanna get into gnostic theory the judas gospel offers another perspective on jesus. Maybe @KingOfWhiteAmerica as an Orthobro can give you a more educated anwer from and Orthodox perspective.

It's almost exactly what the picture is but silver. It's a shadow silhouette of Jesus in the metal, not a figure soldered to a cross, i.e. a crucifix.

@Svantovit i was talking about the apocryphae :-) but with your handle you should avoid crucifixes by any means.

@BudSpencer @Svantovit Enoch is getting a lot of mention - for good reason. While only the Ethiopian Tewahedo elevate it to Holy Scripture, the Ancient World nigh unanimously regarded it as a sincere and earnest attempt at describing the pre-Diluvian world, and the conditions that brought it about - even if not so authoritative as Biblical texts. On par with Enoch, I’d recommend The Wisdom of Solomon. It’s got probably the best single Messianic Prophecy (Wis. 2:12-20). It was sufficiently obvious, it directly led me to reconsider my thitherto Protestant Biblical position. Those are the two big ones. But I also recommend The Psalter According to the Seventy as translated by Holy Transfiguration Monastery. While not at all Apocryphal, it matches Gospel references to Psalms better than Masoretic-sourced material.

@BudSpencer @Svantovit Oh and the Maccabees are really good if you’re a history buff. In fact, the entire OT Deuterocanon is good if you’re a historian, because they’re very significant historically, spanning the “400 Silent Years” (LOL!)

@KingOfWhiteAmerica @Svantovit Oh absolutely agree... i didn't even consider those when i thought about it because in catholicism they are not considered apokryphae

@BudSpencer @KingOfWhiteAmerica I was asking about those books, though. The extra books the Catholics still consider canon. Start with Maccabees?

@Svantovit @KingOfWhiteAmerica yeah, they are a good read. When talking to catholics you gotta be precise, because we consider maaaaaany many books apokryphae ourselves, and we kinda read those too in religious education, to understand why they haven't been canonized.

@Svantovit @BudSpencer Fun Fact:The Book of Tobit features an incarnation of the Archangel Raphael; this is Traditionally understood as having been referrenced in Hebrews 13:2 - “Be not forgetful to entertain strangers: for thereby some have entertained angels unawares.” ‭‭ ~ Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭2‬ ‭KJV

@BudSpencer @Svantovit Oh and thank you Bud for reminding me; I only touched on OT Deuterocanon/Apocrypha !For NT; I highly recommend the Protoevangelion of James. Now, I personally believe it - but it’s controversial, and not without reason. But even if it crosses the line for you, it is very solidly historically attested as a Second Century document. Around 160AD. This isn’t itself proof of infallibility; but the implication of its antiquity is that very great Veneration of the Virgin Mary is easily one of the oldest provable features of Traditional Christianity, not specifically referenced in Scripture. If we’re wrong, then we’ve been wrong for a long time 😅
