Any good online cons, or east coast cons coming up? Good place to catch some online games, preferably in an OSR type game, or Traveller, Mothership? Also, what's the Shadowdark discord server?#ttrpg #osr #traveller #Mothership #Shadowdark

@Da_Gut Well, we do have DragonCon coming up in 60 days. There will be plenty of OSR gaming there, and I'm sure several travelers and probably a mothership. The schedule usually doesn't even think about coming out until a month before the con, if not two weeks, depending on how on-the-ball people are feeling. And open gaming could be anything. https://www.dragoncon.org/things-to-do/gaming/As for the ShadowDark Discord, that's pretty straightforward. https://discord.com/invite/thearcanelibrary

@lextenebris I've been to DragonCon a few times. Not in over a decade mind... I attended the very first one.... before it was called DragonCon, I think. Only about 80 folks attended.I grew up in North Ga.I've got friends who fly into Atlanta every year from Nevada to play at DragonCon..... but its no longer for me. Too big, too crowded, too focused on non gaming stuff.

@lextenebris I've slept under a number of tables at DragonCon (a few decades younger, mind). Though I'm pretty sure that for the past 20 years or so they've not had floor length table coverings because this got to be so common.

@Da_Gut I've been on staff there for—actual decades now. Well, there's a thought I didn't need to have. Now I feel old.The funny thing about DC is that it's gotten so big that the gaming hotel is literally the size of any other convention for the most part. You can spend all five days at the con just going to gaming panels and spending time gaming. There aren't too many places you can say that about. If you want it to be a gaming convention, it can be absolutely a gaming convention.Maybe, if I'm particularly lucky, I'll actually get down to the gaming department at some point this year, as opposed to the last half decade. That would be nice.

@Da_Gut I did my time under tables way back in the day when I was in computer gaming. I do not miss those days. A nice hotel room is far better on my back now.

@lextenebris That's what my friends do. Honestly I don't think I could game that long. I get exhausted dealing with folks for more than your average work day.I worked staff one year only... can't remember which one. I worked registration. A young woman (I was young then too) came in, very late, registration was almost empty. Paid with 1 dollar bills, complaining about how hot it was, then "Oh, it's Dragoncon nobody will care". I look up, she's now in a skimpy bra.I had to restart my count.

@Da_Gut The best thing about knowing that there are five days straight of games that you can play is that you don't feel compelled to do any of them. That's also the worst part. But if you only want to put in 4 to 6 hours of gaming a couple of days, you can fill up the rest of your time with events or panels or just sitting somewhere in a corner watching people walk by. Or sitting out on the street, watching Atlanta go by, as long as you can tolerate the heat.As for that young lady, she was absolutely correct.I don't work in registration, but I often have to work with them. Disability Services has unfortunately claimed me for the relatively consistent past and probably the future until/unless I can convince someone to kill me and replace me.

@Da_Gut It's funny, as the population of fandom gets older, not only do they keep reproducing with mixed results, but more and more of them need scooters, wheelchairs, mobility assistance, seeing-eye dogs, and the entire panoply of disability accommodation, which is fine. That's okay. But that also comes with people trying to grift and scam off of disability accommodation. I'm pretty sure the only reason the department keeps me around is because I enjoy saying no so much. Well, that and I have the weird ability to monitor our communications, internal and external, while doing other stuff like processing assessments. It's a shame it goes flat out from Thursday afternoon to Sunday afternoon. It'd be nice to actually get to attend the con one year.
