I cough until I can't breathe, every single day, multiple times a day. It leaves me exhausted all day long. It keeps me up at night pretty often, too. Fatigue, brain fog, complete lack of energy. And all I can think about is how that asshole office worker at the doctor's office belittled me for asking the doctor to sign off that I needed to miss work for what she arbitrarily decided was "just" a cough. They are literally costing me thousands of dollars in short-term disability, between that office worker's prejudice and the doctor's complete failure to document the full range of symptoms I've complained about every single time I've visited for the last 2 months. It's money I don't have. My bank account is completely empty. I'm begging strangers to feed my kids.I'm left paranoid to ever trust a doctor again. And I'm *furious*.#ChronicIllness#Disability#ShortTermDisability

@hosford42 OK, maybe a somewhat forward question, but are these dry coughs, with very little to no phlegm coming out?

@pathfinder It depends on how deep the phlegm is, on whether anything comes out or I just keep barking. But I'm definitely not dry, even when the coughs are.

@hosford42 I'm just wondering if it is allergy based. If it was viral, or bacterial, I'm pretty sure the medicine you've already been on would have sorted it. COPD, or similar, produces a shit ton of phlegm. You might have trouble digging some of it out, but mostly not. Whilst allergy phlegm is often somewhat less, but harder to shift. It's something that you can develop at any point in your life and is definitely stress related in terms of how it flares up and is made worse. Try taking a couple of over the counter anti-histamines (double dose, I know, but it's perfectly safe) a day and seeing what happens. Sorry for the intrusion. But, as a life-long chronic asthmatic and now COPD sufferer, you might say I'm a bit of an expert on coughs and yours has been making me think.
