The #courts cannot protect us from #Trump’s #unconstitutional overreach. That is the terrifying lesson of Friday’s 6–3 #SCOTUS ruling limiting the power of federal #judges to issue broad orders blocking Trump’s policies from taking effect while the lawsuits challenging them make their way through the courts.#law #democracy #Constitution #SeparationOfPowers

The case, #Trump v. Casa, involved one of the most blatantly #unconstitutional of Trump’s orders: his bid to revoke, by executive fiat, the constitutional guarantee of #BirthrightCitizenship. But the implications of the ruling extend far beyond that single issue. Friday’s decision means that #courts are now hobbled from stopping any of the Admin’s actions, no matter how unconstitutional they may be, nor how much damage they will inflict.#law #democracy #Constitution #SeparationOfPowers

Once again, the #SCOTUS conservative super-majority abandoned its constitutionally assigned role & dangerously empowered the President. As Justice Sonia #Sotomayor put it in her dissent, “its decision is nothing less than an open invitation for the Government to bypass the Constitution.”#law #democracy #Constitution #SeparationOfPowers

@Nonilex So... federal judges no longer have federal powers (only SCOTUS does?) And federal court rulings can now be overridden by state courts?I hope I am misunderstanding this.

@Nonilex I don't even quite understand this decision. Are they saying the lower courts can't block an illegal policy?

@Nonilex they are not upholding the law. They are upholding their agenda. Precedence be damned. These are not judges, they are cultists. May they burn in hell.

@Nonilex @JonChevreau Such a concentration of executive power would never be permitted, unless there was a absolute certainty the executive would *never* again fall into the hands of the Democratic Party.

@Nonilex Beg to differ, "will not", not "cannot". (premise: SCOTUS is part of the court system)Yes, yes, I know - Actually stooges of the Federalist Society, 6 instead of 3, and all the worse for that.

@Nonilex ACB in the written opinion: "Justice Jackson decries an imperial Executive while embracing an imperial Judiciary." An "imperial judiciary" has multiple levels of review subject to possible modification or reversal, up to and including SCOTUS. An imperial executive no longer does after ACB ruling. And an imperial executive is a demonstrated problem, and a demonstrated imperial judiciary (e.g., Kacsmaryk) has been subjected to review/reversal. ACB adores T, and displays that.
