@rhoNo, the laser (when you get it dialed in) doesn't heat the surrounding metal very much, and you generally sand the edged smooth anyway. Tempered picks will last longer, but you should not be stressing the pick in use (gently there) so untempered is tolerable for light work.

@rhoOhyeah, I'm particularly tough on city rakes. I tend to use them on tiny little locks that you can't get any tensioning tool into, and tension with the pick...
