@famfo @jn @fossdd @jbowen @lanodan good luck, I got my elbrus from a dude working at scrap metal dump, who didn't knew what elbrus is, but at least (unlike previously) was smart enough to know it's a server motherboard and that he could sell it for profit, if it was left untouched. And it cost me like 100€ which is cheap considering it is elbrus. And it was just the motherboard with 4 outdated cpus. The ddr3 sticks it came with turned out to be dead. Well, working 16G CF card is just a bonus I guess.

@j @jn @fossdd VLIW architectures need a lot of compiler support to do instruction grouping to work well and x86_64 came up at the same time with most software already working for it. So there wasn't really an incentive to port stuff and compilers took a long while to catch up

@famfo @j @jn @fossdd real problem imho isn't in vliw itself, it's just a way to encode the instructions bundle, but the bundles themselves that represent basically programming arithmetic blocks in cpu separately. Something that others do automatically.

@famfo @jn @fossdd it would have helped if Intel actually made a half decent compiler for their hardware. It was like if Nvidia released a new architecture that was really powerful but their drivers were shit. Hardware isn't very useful if you can't actually use it

@jbowen @jn @fossdd @famfo @lanodan for now, Elbrus OS 8.2, which is at best is a reference Linux distro. I successfully compiled my own kernel from recently officially published sources with wireguard enabled (and x86 emulation ability disabled just for lulz)Wanna switch to AltLinux, but AltLinux repos aren't available from non-Russian IPs.Tried to build Gentoo in a prefix but got stuck and didn't had time to finish it. :(

@j @jn @fossdd @famfo The compilers basicaly had to be self concius to create binary that work as intended, and the other child in the intel lineup had evolve more quickley.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oxrybkd7Mo

@akiran_n @jn @fossdd @famfo I've been saying we need to use AI in compilers for a while now.
