       @Honeyjello that's a common misconception. Char has the scar when he first takes his helmet off in front of his sister. Char got the scar while training with Garma Zabi prior to attaining the Shousa rank (that uniform is a symbol of his rank as Lt Commander. After the One Year War, he leaves the Zeon military and joins the AEUG before becoming supreme commander of Neo Zeon), and he uses the scar as an excuse to wear the mask so the Zabis won't recognize him as Zeon's son

       @Honeyjello in the original, it's hard to distinguish the scar from the other contour lines, and his bangs typically cover it, but you can occasionally see it, like this frame

       @Honeyjello it is also inconsistent because some of the animators couldn't distinguish the scar from contour lines. There's a whole paragraph about it in one of the Japanese art books

       @Honeyjello There should be a foot note on the Fandom wiki under Char's bio where it talks about him getting the scar. That's where I first learned about it happening before MSG
