@mischievoustomato I don't get the hate for Wayland. It has been so much better and smoother to use than X11 from my experience.

I can never get anything to work nearly as well, and some show stoppers are completely broken, and I spend several weeks each time I try:https://battlepenguin.com/tech/adventures-in-hyprland/https://battlepenguin.com/technology/i-try-sway-wayland-about-once-a-year/They only system I use Wayland on is my home theater so I can get HDR, but that's a dead simple system:https://battlepenguin.com/tech/how-to-play-videos-in-hdr-on-linux-for-a-home-theater/

@Anonsfw @mischievoustomato I give wayland a try every few months. Last time around February it was looking ok, until I had to do some config incantations to make firefox picture-in-picture actually work and once I got it fixed....I found I needed more work to make it remember the position where I opened it... :cirnoStare: I can play my grinding goombling game at 110fps and not have to worry about whether my windows will open in the same place so for me X just werks™

@djsumdog @Anonsfw i run gnome on wayland, and because it's a DE, for me it's just worked for the things I wanna do, or even need to do.

@mischievoustomato @Anonsfw Well I am a contrarian so I'm on le super niche distro because I don't need IBM up in my grill, so that may be part of it. Also had desktop sharing, screen recording issues and other assorted bits and pieces. Each one by itself would not be bad, but having a bug crawl out of a rock every other day gets annoying. :peepoShrug:

@mischievoustomato I'm in my Wayland shill Arc now. I'll continue using Linux Mint LTS X-Server session until 2029 personally of course but I'd love Red Hat shills to do all the Beta testing for me until I eventually switch. We need to go wilder, Billions of usecases must be ignored

@mischievoustomato 90% of the screeching about Wayland, Systemd and Flatpak is just autistic tribalism.

@Anonsfw @mischievoustomato i have no hate for wayland. i don't care for wayland and just want to use X.i disapprove the immoral behavior of the people involved. first patches for xorg are ignored by wayland people who are maintaining X as well. enrico, who was doing the patches, has enough of being ignored and does a fork, which he writes lunduke about. wayland people are triggered as lunduke and enrico weigelt are both literally hitler and they delete every trace of the patches and fork. banning from mailinglists as well.all criticism of xlibre i'm aware of seems to hinge on that enrico was critical of the mrna injections and that he doesn't do DEI bullshit but merit based development which doesn't cater to the identity of people as first priority. some rumor says enrico violates licensing, i have seen no proof of this.the only valid technical argument i've seen is that his patches break ABI, which is a non issue for free software.
