Something to chew on, this Pride month:As a cis and/or hetero person, you don't have to understand how it feels to be gay, pan, or ace, to be trans, enby, genderfluid or any other identity or orientation. You don't need to intellectually "get" it. It doesn't have to make sense to you. There's nothing more to it than taking people's word for how they feel, and standing alongside them, as they simply live their lives as themselves.Much love :BetterPrideHeart:

P.S. This is from a cis hetero woman who tried very hard to understand how all these things feel, and is still personally and intellectually none the wiser - apart from being sure I am *not* trans, that it is a very difficult thing to be, and that being supportive is the only thing that makes sense!

@sarajw I'm not sure I agree. If I don't know what I'm supporting, then I could be supporting something horrible. For example, I didn't know anything about Scientology for a long time, and only recently learned about their abusive behaviour and crazy beliefs. I'm glad I never supported Scientologists, even if they say they're being unfairly persecuted.I get homosexuality and support LGB rights. Pansexuality just seems like bisexuality with some navel gazing added so whatever.Asexuality has no reason to concern anyone, though I think it may often be the result of social issues, like the effect porn has on people, rather than an actual orientation, so I think it's ok to scrutinize as a concept and collectively think about more. I could say more but the post will get way too long.Trans/NB/genderqueer/etc. make no sense to me. I'm still waiting for someone to explain how one can say "trans women are women" without redefining "woman" on the basis of sexist stereotypes or turning it into a vacuous definition without any meaning whatsoever, both of which are unacceptable and lead to serious real life issues that we can already observe. The transgender movement needs an internal revolution before I'll support it.

@taylanBut you can support Scientolog*ists* without supporting Scientolog*y*.Isn't it mostly the higher-ups in the religion that do all that stuff, not the rank-and-file?@sarajw

@light @sarajw I could try to help them get out of the cult, but my understanding is that this is usually seen as hostile so they will cut contact with you. Remarkable parallels, when you think about it.

@sarajw You need to stop comparing Black women to men in dresses with "woman spirits" as if it's a "gotcha" or compare our struggles as equivalent. That's called forced teaming. If you think we're all ugly and man-like, we'll that's painful to hear but you still know we aren't men.You need to protect women trapped in prisons with men who are convicted of grant rape, femicide and cannibalism. You need to respect women's rights to their own private bathrooms based on reality, not unverifiable spiritual claims. There's so much more you need to do.

@sarajw You support a disgustingly racist culture that uses rhe most marginalized women as human shields and throws away the gains made by orher women and Black people and even gays and lesbians to support insane bullshit. And yet you believe you're moral. Patriarchy doesn't care that you do their work. What you are to patriarchy is a cunt to use, even if you sew it shut or grow a beard.Get a clue and some humility โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ

@jetlagjen Then I'm guessing that your definitions probably fall under "circular" and/or "vacuous" meaning they convey no useful, objective information about the person they're applied to.Maybe asking it like this will help demonstrate the issue:How can I know if I'm a "woman" or a "man"?Alternatively:What objective information do I gain about an individual, upon learning they are a "woman" or a "man"?
