i keep up with TADC but I feel like, the information we get about the characters always feels so superficial because we don't really learn anything beyond tidbits that feel more like set ups for the start of their relationships and dynamics or just very superficial details about their lives that leave too much open-ended and not, actually digging into and connecting to a fuller scope of who these characters are... so there's so little to really know and understand about them.

the most recent episode felt like, learning information that should have come up within the first few episodes, the placement of it didn't really make sense to me. like I feel like actually if the characters are stuck in a real life existential nightmare they would have tried to also learn everything they could about their situation and each other upfront instead of pausing after only many adventures together to learn very few vague details. IDK WEIRD WRITING TO ME

everything with Kinger apparently being sane enough in instances to understand the lore and world they are in better than anyone else but no one seems interested in touching that and Pomni barely brings it up despite him saying he was part of the team that made the game makes me so ???????

@afairmaiden OK I'M GLAD IT WASN'T JUST ME! Like we went from knowing very little about them, to a sudden burst of details back-to-back. It would make sense if in-universe they didn't have much time between adventures to spend together, BUT it has already been established that they have plenty of off-time, and their own rooms where they can "sleep" for extended periods of time...

@sinpail YEAH IT'S JUST WEIRD PLACEMENT?? ALSO A LOT OF THE INFORMATION WE LEARN FEELS like the starting point of setting them up and their dynamics to begin playing off each other (like Jax and Ragatha not getting along well or Gangle and Zooble do get along, why is this being only Confirmed now??). We were shown tidbits of this before episode 5 but the episode really just further confirms it instead of, using it to bring a more well-rounded dynamic to the main team? Like if you think of other

@sinpail media all this information is usually the "hi we're a group who just got together everyone go around the circle and tell us your name and who you are" day 1 introduction, so i'm actually very frustrated because it means the characters are truly not that deep or interesting or complex, at all and I can't see them resolving it in the remaining series run...

@FillerName Yeah that's a big thing i was feeling too... they behave like they've been here barely longer than Pomni AND the way they all talk about themselves in episode 5 makes it sound like they hadn't even really gone on adventures together or had any downtime to get to know each other when they've had plenty by thi s point. @FillerName taking them out of building a further understanding of each other? It really feels like the writing treats characters actually having a more solid foundation of who they are for each other and the audience to understand them and their goals is treated like "filler" or "wasted screentime" when it's really the biggest appeal to the series because most of these episodes have done nothing to further the story between understanding the digital circus better it's all just waiting for

@afairmaiden yeah like I suppose the counterpoint would be that not every character would necessarily reveal every detail early on, BUT it is definitely really unusual that SO many of them are *just now* bringing up so many details of their backstory/character that are so important to them, not just to Pomni, the newest member, but to everyone else?!? And at a point in the story where it isn't relevant yet, assuming we're supposed to see this as a Jax focused episode and start of his arc-

@FillerName i understood TADC is only going to be 9 episodes long, so we're really basically halfway through the series, but if i'm wrong and they plan to have like 30 eps or more seasons or something then the drip feeding doesn't bother me as much, just the weird pacing of where information is revealed so much later than it makes sense for very introductory info about the characters...

@FillerName i am so interested in like, ok they can't remember their names but can remember other details about their lives before they came here and i'm surprised that wasn't honed in on by even Pomni to try to as the newest member, piece together where they are or what is happening? or like knowing what the parameters are for that, idk tbh i feel i dont' have enough information of what the story is doing to truly critique it but that's also part of the problem I have with it.

@afairmaiden as much as I loved episode 5, I feel this too.Their bar conversation really did feel like stuff that realistically, they should have already talked about? And like YEAH with Pomni, I keep saying that I wish she was shown to be more curious about the circus and everything, especially given that exploring was literally her hobby??I get the sense that Jax at least already knew about Ragatha's past and her mother given his reaction and how relatively close they seem, but...augh. I feel like they have such interesting dynamics but with each episode, I still feel like we get little context for how close or how intimate or how they actually even feel about each other, beyond the superficial stuff. It's almost like... why are you afraid to explore your own characters???Given the setup, I just want to see them approaching this situation by clinging to each other because it's all they got, even if they've had some conflicts and drama, y'know?Also sorry if I'm parroting, but it does make me feel less insane to know I'm not the only one who notices an "off-ness" in the tone, lol. The stuff with Kinger too, that should be a big deal like, is there going to be a payoff for that??I really want to see shit go down with Caine and C&A and whatever the heck is up with Bubble, as Caine is growing more impatient and controlling and seems to be running out of ideas. Since it's basically been confirmed now that the game has been abandoned, it goes back to my theory/headcanon that Caine is breaking down bc he's not meant to be left running for as long as he has, and he's also just as much a prisoner here it seems.
