My brother is currently in a state prison that specializes the the severely mentally ill. His sentence is up next month and he will be released. They have been trying to get him into a supervised living place for weeks but they have so far not been able to.He's 1600ish miles from me. I'm going to fly there and pick him up. Right now, he can't leave the state.i could rent him an apartment but if he stops his meds he gets violent. We need more places for people like this.

@Phil That’s rough! A friend of mine has a son with Schizo affective disorder. He is ok w/ meds but when he decides to stop those & start drinking, it always goes south. I feel for people with family members w/ these afflictions. We need to have mental health homes & senior homes that don’t break the bank & care for people.

@Phil My mom has Alzheimer’s.! a “decent” place is $4100 a month! Average is $5300 in CA. We are caring for her at our home until things get too difficult to manage. I pray we won’t have to travel to the very end of Alzheimer’s path for her.

@HeyLiberty @Phil I've had at least 2 coworkers that kept their family member at home. One was her mother and she only had help when she worked (night shift-12 hrs). About did her in. Another guy was early 60's, married another coworker. She's developed very early Alz in her late 50's. He quit, sold his house, downsized and took care of her until hospice. Had friends relieve him, but too far away for me when I had little kids. Almost have put a chip on them. Such a terrible thing!

@Lori @Phil It’s awful. So far we are just getting started. But she was diagnosed at 67 (now she’s 70). Had trouble before then, but my sister wanted her in a home. I guess she just couldn’t do it. I’m not saying it’s easy, but I feel abandoning her in a home now just isn’t right. Though there will be a time for it. I don’t think I can do all the medical stuff and I don’t believe I have it in me to do diapers. I have limits… I think!
