What's is it with WhatsApp ?I recently agreed to take part in a local representative group.We were informed of the meeting by email.We had just started our face to face meeting and someone said."Let's set up a WhatsApp group ".It seems to me everyone and their granny is in a bloody WhatsApp group.WHY ?I feel as if I am being dragged screaming and kicking into yet another....Now I read that WhatsApp will start delivering adverts at the end of the month.Please tell me there are some of you out there who are not on a WhatsApp group.I am drowning here !

@stannard What a nightmare!I've never used WhatsApp (or any other Meta shit) and never will. If people are not willing to use e-mail, Signal, Threema, Matrix or exchange text message, we will not be in touch. As simple as that.Even my bosses started using Signal for me, so yes, it is possible.

@Eric_ours_polaire The thing is, I am OLD.I subscribed to WhatsApp before meta got their hands on it, At that time it was a nice useful tool.

@stannard So did I but deleted it the day Meta got their hands on it. I since use Signal for a few contacts outside Belgium and use here the xmpp service proposed by @barbapulpe

@stannard I hear that. Infuriating. But fwiw recently I've found that even some older friends can be converted away from meta when I take the time to describe the actual risks and what it's really costing them. Importantly they're already aware of the rapidly degrading value proposition and I've been pleasantly surprised at several converts. Bon courage !

@stannard A local charity I am IT support for started using Whatsapp. I refused to use it.When your IT support refuses to use an app, it should tell you something.
