@Nonilex Thing is, businesses appear to be implementing this #AI technology to provide legal advice. Personally, I’m not sure this is a good idea unless a lawyer reviews all the bot’s output - constantly. Not everyone is aware of AI hallucination and I'm not certain sales people bring it up.

@Nonilex I know psychosis is not monocausal but I'm turning more luddite by the day. I already fled the city to live in a rural village where everybody knows everybody. Our 5yo roams the village unsupervised with her girlfriends all summer and I love it. Now some parents are buying airtags for their kids. The same parents who got them tablets for "educational" games at 2.5 years old.Our kids play with earth, sticks, and bugs and help me plant vegetables. No technology before you have roots.

@Nonilex While this is possible, I think more likely it's just an unintended (but predictable) consequence of the decision to use reinfocement learning to tune ChatGPT's output. Users like having their preconceptions validated, and ChatGPT was told to learn what users like and give them more of it.

@Nonilex I think the issue is that people don’t understand how they work.At their core they’re pattern recognition machines. The more you use it, the more it mirrors your own patterns. You get out what you put in - sometimes without realizing they are your words. If I tell ChatGPT that it feels like “future technology” enough it will start to tell me that it’s from the future. The wide availability of these tools to people that don’t fully understand them is causing a mental health crisis.

@nonproductive True but by making it available to the public at large — all people, it will be used by the vulnerable, people in crisis, the easily manipulated, the mentally ill, even children whose concepts of the world are not fully informed & whose brains haven’t completely developed — meaning you 100% cannot expect all users to “understand how they work.” It’s extremely reckless & is resulting in deaths, divorces & delusion.

@Nonilex I 100% agree with you.These companies are prioritizing profit over public safety (go figure). It would be easy to implement a content filter (they already exist) to recognize disassociated or dependent behavior and provide a “warning” - not jarring, but turn on a light: “it’s important to know what I am and what I am not. As comforting as this may feel, all I am really capable of is mirroring your feelings back - which feels validating, even when those feelings should be questioned.”

@Nonilex when I finally curated the inputs to Travesty 3.0 to get something coherent, we did not fear, because first: you had to type in lots of text, and think about it, then you knew this was not the Oracle of Delphi, so it remained Poetry.
